The Wines, Vines & Food Tour of Margaret River

This tour not only showcases exquisite wines but also immerses participants in the historical significance of the region. It’s a perfect blend of education, exploration, and indulgence.
Experience an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the renowned ‘Fraser Gallop Wine’ estate in an extended EV buggy. From there you will travel to the coast and learn about the Baudin Survey Expedition of 1800 to 1803 tasked with the mapping of New Holland (now called Australia). We then delve into a unique ‘Heritage’ wine tasting at Cape Mentelle Vineyards that was founded in 1970, and the winery that takes its name from the nearby Cape.
The founding winery Vasse Felix is our next and last stop, and here you will be participating in a guided introduction to the ‘Estate’ and tour of the ‘Vault’. Followed by a seated and private tasting in the wine lounge (or terrace/garden weather permitting) accompanied by a delicious selection of cheeses and charcuterie. This tour beautifully combines the rich history of wine-making with the exploration of Western Australia’s coastal and cultural heritage.

Designed and offered exclusively for Guests of Cape Lodge, this tour provides a wonderful day out at all times of the year!
Itinerary Details
- The day begins with a short walk along the iconic Cape to Cape track, from Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse, south to Sugarloaf Rock. This is a beautiful, easy, 45 min stroll along a paved, gently sloping downhill walkway, showcasing a very picturesque section of the Indian Ocean coastline. A wonderful way to start the day!
From Sugarloaf to the gorgeous Ilma Beach House on The Region’s north facing shore and right on the beach, for a coffee and morning tea. - We then visit one of Wilyabrup’s premium wineries, Fraser Gallop, for a signature tasting experience.
- A short drive around the corner takes you to Vasse Felix Winery, where it all began in 1967 when Dr. Tom Cullity established the founding wine estate of the Margaret River region—perfect for a delicious lunch with matched wines. The restaurant offers a beautiful setting amongst the vines, to indulge in the regional flavours, textures and creative cuisine that compliment their premium wine collection. The menu is crafted from local seasonal produce and changes frequently as new ingredients become available.
- We then indulge with a stop at Gabriel Chocolates followed by our last stop for the day at Vasse Virgin Olive’s extensive factory and retail shop. You will notice a small selection of their beauty products in your room at Cape Lodge.
- We aim to have you back at Cape Lodge just after 5pm after a very satisfying and interesting day.

It’s the wine and nature lovers’ experience with the works! If you only have a few days in the region and want to experience the best hidden gems, this is the tour for you.
Limited to only 6 guests, travelling in a luxury 4WD, this is “the tour for people who don’t do tours”, hosted by WA Guide of the Year – Sean Blocksidge.
This tour is one of the region’s most popular, generally selling out several weeks in advance. We suggest booking as early as possible.
What’s included
- Start the day with a canoe trip down a stunning section of the tranquil Margaret River. You won’t get wet, dirty or fall in. It’s a peaceful beginning to our day of highlights.
- We then head to the coast to see how the winemakers relax – a coffee while we check the surf at one of the region’s top beach breaks.
- Our next stop is an ancient waterhole to spot freshwater Marron and wildlife and to taste local honey while we reflect on Aboriginal history dating back more than 50,000 years.
- Lunch at one the region’s most celebrated emerging superstar wineries –Fraser Gallop Estate – is our next highlight. We have exclusive access to the working winery and vineyard and savour some of the best wines in the region matched with local produce while seated among barrels of ageing wine.
- We finish our day with a 4WD adventure and walk on a spectacular section of the Cape to Cape Track – the Wilyabrup Cliffs. We have special government approval to use a 4WD track that offers stunning cliff top views. High above the Indian Ocean the epic scenery, fresh sea breezes and surrounding ancient soils provide a deeper understanding of the unique terroir of the Margaret River region.
